Three questions that settle it
Is the room only for watching?
If it is a dedicated theater with height speakers and more than one subwoofer, the answer is the CINEMA 30 and nothing below it. If the room is also a living room, the CINEMA 60 is almost always right.
Is there room for the box?
This decides more systems than anyone admits. If the cabinet will not take a full-height receiver, the CINEMA 70s exists precisely for that, and you give up power, not features.
Is it music, not film?
Then none of these is the answer, and we will say so. A proper two-channel system will do more for you than nine channels you never use.
About the numbers
The power and channel figures above are the specifications Marantz publishes. They are useful for comparing one model against another and almost useless for predicting how a system will sound in your house. What decides that is the speakers, the room and the calibration — which is the part we do, and the part you cannot read off a box.
