Perlisten in Santo Domingo
Loudspeakers and subwoofers, THX Certified Dominus — Ensanche Naco
Most loudspeakers are designed to measure well straight ahead and then hope the room is kind to them. Perlisten starts from the other end: how a speaker behaves off-axis, at reference level and in a real room is the specification, and the published measurements are there to prove it.
Perlisten, short for Perceptual Listening, was founded in 2016 in Verona, Wisconsin, by loudspeaker engineers with decades behind them at major brands. Drivers, cabinets, crossovers and amplifiers are designed in-house across two ranges, the Signature S Series and the Reference R Series, in towers, standmounts, centres and surrounds, together with the D Series subwoofers. Stereotek specifies and installs the full Perlisten line, for two-channel rooms and for dedicated cinemas.
What sets Perlisten apart
Three things you can measure
The DPC array
At the centre of every S and R Series speaker is the Directivity Pattern Control array: a waveguided tweeter flanked by two midrange domes, built as a single unit. It controls how sound spreads from around 1 kHz upward, so voices stay focused and the timbre holds as you move away from the centre seat. The S Series uses a beryllium tweeter; the R Series array is three silk domes.
THX Certified Dominus
Perlisten was the first brand to earn THX Certified Dominus, the largest performance class THX certifies: reference level in rooms up to 6,500 cubic feet, about 184 m³, with seats up to 20 feet, about 6 metres, from the screen. It is a commitment about headroom and low distortion at volume, not a badge on the grille.
Engineered and measured in-house
Perlisten designs its own drivers instead of buying them off the shelf, and publishes the data: on- and off-axis frequency response, impedance, phase and distortion. Many models can run sealed or ported, so the bass can be tuned to the room and to the subwoofers working with them.
The D215s subwoofer
Two 15-inch carbon-fibre drivers in a sealed push-pull alignment: one faces forward, the other fires into the cabinet. Working in opposition, they double the displacement and cancel each other’s even-order distortion, which Perlisten puts at a further 10 to 12 dB. A 3,000-watt amplifier with its own DSP drives it, and it carries THX Certified Dominus for large private cinemas.
In a room, that means bass that starts and stops with the film or the recording instead of hanging on after it. We place, integrate and calibrate the subwoofers on site with measurement, as part of the system. Availability and lead times to the Dominican Republic are confirmed before anything is specified in a drawing.
